On this excursion to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, you'll traverse through one of Peru's significant and protected nature reserves. Visit the famous stone forest!
Description
Meet us at the Plaza de Armas in Tarma and we'll set off on our day trip to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, a protected area in the heart of the Bombon Plateau.
Our journey will take us through the landscapes of the Bombon Plateau, where we'll encounter flower crops, the Pampas of Junin, and the Historical Sanctuary of Chacamarca. This sanctuary honors the heroes who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Junin, a key event during Peru's struggle for independence.
As we continue, we'll pass through the towns of Junín, Parí, or San Juan de Ondores and reach Chinchaycocha Lake, the second-largest lake in Peru. Here we'll pause at a viewpoint to enjoy the vistas before proceeding to the Huayllay National Sanctuary.
A major highlight is the Huayllay Stone Forest, featuring over 480 distinct rock formations. During our visit, we'll explore this area, noting resemblances some formations have to animals or human figures.
The last stop will be at the small village of Carhuamayo to see the Maca Monument. After this, we'll return to Tarma.
Our day trip concludes 13 hours after pickup, returning you to the meeting point.
