On this excursion to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, you'll traverse through one of Peru's most significant and protected nature reserves. Visit the famous stone forest!
Description
Meet us at the Plaza de Armas in Tarma and we'll set off on our day trip to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, located in the Bombon Plateau.
The journey includes scenic landscapes of the Bombon Plateau, with flower crops, the expansive Pampas of Junin, and the Historical Sanctuary of Chacamarca. This site commemorates the heroes of the Battle of Junin, significant in Peru's struggle for independence.
We will pass through the towns of Junín, Parí, or San Juan de Ondores to reach Chinchaycocha Lake, the second-largest lake in Peru. Here, we will stop at a viewpoint to enjoy the vistas before continuing to the Huayllay National Sanctuary.
A highlight of our visit is the Huayllay Stone Forest, featuring over 480 unique rock formations. We will explore this area and identify formations resembling animals or human figures.
The final stop is at the small village of Carhuamayo to see the Maca Monument, after which we will return to Tarma.
The day trip will conclude 13 hours after pickup, returning you to the meeting point.
