On this excursion to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, you'll traverse through one of Peru's most significant and protected nature reserves. Visit the famous stone forest!
Description
Meet us at the Plaza de Armas in Tarma and we'll set off on our day trip to the Huayllay National Sanctuary, located in the Bombon Plateau.
Our journey will take us through the landscapes of the Bombon Plateau, encountering flower crops, the Pampas of Junin, and the Historical Sanctuary of Chacamarca, honoring heroes from the Battle of Junin during Peru's struggle for independence.
Upon passing through the towns of Junín, Parí, or San Juan de Ondores, we'll reach Chinchaycocha Lake, the second-largest lake in Peru. Here, we'll pause at a viewpoint to enjoy the vistas before continuing to the Huayllay National Sanctuary.
A major highlight is the Huayllay Stone Forest, featuring over 480 distinct rock formations. We'll explore this area, noting formations that resemble animals or humans.
The last stop will be at the village of Carhuamayo to see the Maca Monument. After this, we'll return to Tarma.
We will conclude our day trip, 13 hours after pickup, bringing you back to the meeting point.
