On this tour dedicated to the Huichol culture, delve into the significance of this vital indigenous civilization in the Nayarit Riviera. Our journey includes participation in a ritual and witnessing a traditional dance.
Description
Meet us at the Fray Junipero Serra hotel in Tepic at the scheduled time and set off towards the Aguamilpa hydroelectric dam, located along the Grande de Santiago riverbed.
The journey into the Huichol or Wixarika culture begins here, one of the few civilizations preserving its ancient indigenous traditions. The Huichol people express their distinct worldview and history through their attire, traditions, cuisine, and handicrafts.
From the Aguamilpa dam, we will board a boat to Anaki, a sacred site for the Huichol community. Indigenous guides will lead us through the ceremonial center and the Calli-Huey temple. Participants will take part in the Marakame ritual and a traditional Huichol dance, providing an immersive cultural experience.
Next, explore a Wixarika handicraft exhibition to appreciate authentic artisanry. The tour concludes with a traditional lunch featuring fried fish.
Finally, return to Tepic after an immersive 10-hour adventure, bringing us back to the starting point.
