Huichol Culture Day Trip
- 11 Stunden
On this tour dedicated to the Huichol culture, delve into the significance of this vital indigenous civilization in the Nayarit Riviera. Our journey will include participation in a ritual and a traditional dance.
Description
Meet us at the Fray Junipero Serra hotel in Tepic at the scheduled time and set off towards the Aguamilpa hydroelectric dam, located along the Grande de Santiago riverbed.
Here, our exploration of the Huichol or Wixarika culture begins, a civilization that successfully preserves its ancient indigenous traditions. The Huichol people express their distinct worldview and history through their attire, traditions, cuisine, and handicrafts.
From the Aguamilpa dam, we will travel by boat to Anaki, a sacred site for the Huichol community. Indigenous community members will guide us through the ceremonial center and the Calli-Huey temple, where we will participate in the Marakame ritual and a traditional Huichol dance, immersing us in this remarkable culture.
Next, we'll explore a Wixarika handicraft exhibition to appreciate authentic artisanry. The experience will conclude with a traditional lunch featuring fried fish.
Finally, we will return to Tepic after an immersive and educational 10-hour adventure, bringing us back to our starting point.
