Description
Meet us at the Fray Junipero Serra hotel in Tepic at the scheduled time and set off towards the Aguamilpa hydroelectric dam, situated along the Grande de Santiago riverbed.
Here, our journey into the Huichol or Wixarika culture begins. The Huichol people possess a distinct worldview and history, expressed in their attire, traditions, cuisine, and handicrafts.
From the Aguamilpa dam, we'll hop in a boat to Anaki, a sacred site for the Huichol community. Community members will guide us through the ceremonial center and the Calli-Huey temple. Participants will engage in the Marakame ritual and a traditional Huichol dance.
We'll then explore a Wixarika handicraft exhibition, appreciating genuine artisanry. To conclude, we'll enjoy a traditional lunch featuring fried fish.
Finally, we'll return to Tepic after an immersive and educational 10-hour adventure.
