Chaves Day Trip

At the arranged time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Montalegre and embark on our journey to Chaves. The transfer will take approximately 45 minutes, utilizing a 4x4 or a minibus for your comfort.

Upon reaching our destination, we will begin with an exterior visit to the medieval castle of Chaves. This historic fortress, now home to a military museum, has seen many historical conflicts between Portugal and Spain.

Next, we'll admire the facades of the 17th-century forts of São Francisco and São Neutel, built as defensive structures against the Spanish. Following this, we will marvel at the stunning Roman bridge over the Tâmega River, constructed under the reign of Trajan, the first Hispanic emperor. Its arches have remarkably endured since the days of the Roman Empire!

Subsequently, we will proceed to Estrada Nacional 2 and its notable Kilometre 0 marker before visiting the Roman thermal baths, a significant social hub of ancient times. Did you know that the thermal waters here are among the warmest in all of Europe?

After approximately three hours exploring, we will return to Montalegre and transport you back to your hotel.
