Chaves Day Trip

On this trip, you will visit the Portuguese city of Chaves, exploring its notable monuments and learning about the history of this northern town.

At the scheduled time, pickup will be organized from your hotel in Montalegre for the journey to Chaves, which will take approximately 45 minutes by 4x4 or minibus.

Upon arrival, the itinerary includes a visit to the exterior of the medieval castle of Chaves, currently housing a military museum and a witness to the conflicts between Spain and Portugal.

Next, you will see the facades of the forts of São Francisco and São Neutel, 17th-century structures built for the defense against the Spanish. This will be followed by a visit to the Roman bridge over the Tâmega River, constructed under emperor Trajan, showcasing arches that have survived since Roman times.

The tour continues to Estrada Nacional 2 and its Kilometre 0, before concluding at the Roman thermal baths, known for some of the warmest medicinal waters in Europe.

After approximately 3 hours on the road, you will return to Montalegre to be taken back to your hotel.
