On this day trip, you'll visit the Portuguese city of Chaves. You'll see its most famous monuments and learn about the history of this town in the north of Portugal.
Chaves Day Trip
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Montalegre and set off for the city of Chaves in the north of Portugal. The journey, by 4x4 or minibus, will take around 45 minutes.
Upon arrival, we'll visit the exterior of the medieval castle of Chaves, which houses a military museum and has witnessed the conflicts between Spain and Portugal.
We'll then visit the facades of the forts of São Francisco and São Neutel, 17th-century buildings built to defend the city from the Spanish. Next, we'll stop at the Roman bridge over the Tâmega River, built under the orders of Trajan, notable for its intact arches since Roman times!
Afterwards, we'll visit the Estrada Nacional 2 and its Kilometre 0 before heading to the Roman thermal baths, an important gathering spot known for having some of the warmest medicinal waters in Europe.
After 3 hours on the road, we'll return to Montalegre and take you back to your hotel.
