Day Trip to Vergina & Veria
We'll meet next to the Statue of Venizelos to embark on this excursion to Vergina and Veria. Departing from Thessaloniki, we'll discover two cities rich in history and culture.
Our first stop is Veria, notable for its religious history. Here, St. Paul preached on his second missionary journey. You will have 1 hour of free time to explore the Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches and stroll through the city's old quarters.
Next, we will head to Vergina, the ancient capital of the Macedonian Kingdom. Upon arrival, we’ll visit the New Museum of Aigai, which showcases artefacts from ancient Egas.
We'll continue to the Museum of the Royal Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we will see significant funerary monuments, including the royal tomb of Philip II and gold treasures from the 4th century BC.
After exploring the tomb, you will have free time for refreshments.
Finally, we will conclude our day by returning to the meeting point in Thessaloniki, arriving 7 hours later.
