Do you want to discover the most famous monasteries in Greece? We'll discover the rich history of these holy places, which have been declared World Heritage Sites, on this unforgettable day trip to Meteora by bus from Thessaloniki.

Description

At the scheduled time, we'll meet below the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos and depart onboard a bus. After around 3 hours of travel, with a short stop for coffee, we'll arrive at the Meteora Monasteries.

During the tour, we'll admire the exterior of the 6 main monasteries. Notable among them are the Monastery of Saint Stephen, known for its carved wooden works, and the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, featuring 140 steep steps. Also included are Rousanou, with a scene of the martyrdom of the saints, and Varlaam Monastery, home to 16th-century frescoes. Additionally, we will see the Great Meteoro and St. Nicholas Monasteries, the latter renowned for frescoes by Theophanes of Crete.

We'll visit the interiors of 2 monasteries, varying by tour date. Afterward, we'll pass through Kalambaka and Kastraki, stopping at a local restaurant for lunch. Our return to Thessaloniki will conclude the 11-hour excursion.
