Meteora Monasteries Excursion

Do you want to discover the most famous monasteries in Greece? We'll explore the rich history of these World Heritage Sites on a day trip to Meteora by bus from Thessaloniki.

Description

At the scheduled time, we'll meet below the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos and depart on a bus. After approximately 3 hours with a brief stop for coffee, we'll arrive at Meteora, known for its striking monasteries suspended above the rocks.

During the tour, we'll admire the exterior of the 6 main monasteries. The Monastery of Saint Stephen is recognized for its wooden carvings, while the Monastery of the Holy Trinity features steep steps. Rousanou contains scenes of saintly martyrdom, and Varlaam showcases 16th-century frescoes. We'll also see the 14th-century Great Meteoro and St. Nicholas Monastery, known for frescoes by Theophanes of Crete.

We'll visit the inside of 2 monasteries, selected based on the tour date. After touring Meteora, we'll pass through Kalambaka and Kastraki, where a stop will be made at a local restaurant for a meal before returning to Thessaloniki, concluding our 11-hour excursion.

Please note that the monasteries visited may vary, but 2 monasteries in Meteora are guaranteed on any day of the tour.
