  • 8 Stunden

Visit the hometown of Alexander the Great with this trip to Pella and Vergina. You will discover the importance of Macedonia's past by exploring its archaeological sites.

Description

At the indicated time we'll meet next to the sculpture of Eleftherios Venizelos, located in Egnatia Street. There, we'll board a minibus and leave Thessaloniki to start this excursion to Pella and Vergina.

After a 45-minute drive, we'll reach Pella, the hometown of Alexander the Great, which served as the capital of Macedonia between the 5th and 4th centuries BC. This site features a significant archaeological site that we will explore, learning about historical figures such as Aristotle, Euripides, Philip II, and Alexander the Great.

We will enter the site's museum to view various finds, including everyday objects of the ancient city and notable mosaic floors from the "house of Dionysus" and "house of Helena".

After this, we will visit Vergina and stop in front of the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai, which houses the tomb of King Philip II of Macedon.

Following our exploration of this World Heritage Site, we'll go to a local restaurant to enjoy a Greek lunch at your own expense. Finally, we'll return to Thessaloniki.

After 13 hours of excursion, we'll conclude the activity back at the starting point.
