David Gareja Monastery & Rainbow Mountains Private Tour
At the selected time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Tbilisi and take you through the Caucasian valleys in a jeep. We'll head 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of Tbilisi to the Kakheti region to visit the monastery of David Gareja.
This monastery complex carved into rock was founded by St. David Gareja, one of the 13 Assyrian monks who came to Georgia in the 6th century. It is located next to the Mount Gareja desert, offering views of the arid landscapes in the area. We'll visit the complex and explore its defensive walls, towers, and ancient frescoes.
During the visit, we will learn about the monastery's history and its notable figures, such as Georgian king Demetrius I, who was confined here after his abdication in 1154. Afterward, we'll take an 8-kilometer (5 miles) hike through the Rainbow Mountains, featuring landscapes that appear otherworldly.
On the way back, we'll stop at a traditional village for lunch, where you can also sample Georgian mulled wine. After ten hours of sightseeing, we'll return to Tbilisi and drop you off at your hotel.
