David Gareja Monastery & Rainbow Mountains Private Tour
At the selected time, pickup will be from your hotel in Tbilisi, followed by a jeep ride through the Caucasian valleys to the Kakheti region, located 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of Tbilisi, to visit the David Gareja Monastery.
This monastery complex is carved into rock and was founded by St. David Gareja, one of the 13 Assyrian monks active in Georgia during the 6th century. It is situated next to the Mount Gareja desert, offering views of the surrounding arid landscapes. Visits include tours of the complex, where you can observe the defensive walls, towers, and ancient frescoes.
Learn about the monastery's rich history, including the confinement of Georgian king Demetrius I here after his abdication in 1154. Following the monastery visit, an 8-kilometer (5 miles) hike through the Rainbow Mountains will showcase stunning landscapes.
En route back, there's a stop at a traditional village for lunch, including the opportunity to sample Georgian mulled wine. After approximately ten hours of exploration, return to Tbilisi for hotel drop-off.
