Tour of Communist Tirana
At 9 am we'll meet at the entrance of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Albania in the center of Tirana. The tour will cover the traces of communism in Albania.
Participants will learn about the history of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania (1946-1992) and visit Scanderbeg Square to see the statue of Albania's national hero.
Next, we'll visit the House Studio Kadare, the home of writer Ismail Kadare, who faced significant obstacles during the communist era. Inside the museum, we'll learn about his life and challenges under the regime.
We will then go to Bunk'Art 2, the largest nuclear shelter turned history museum in Tirana, featuring 36 rooms built between 1981 and 1986 for protection during potential invasions.
During the tour, we'll pass by government buildings and walk along the main boulevard to the Pyramid of Tirana, stopping for coffee at Komiteti - Kafe Muzeum.
We'll also see the Post-Block Memorial, part of the Berlin Wall, a gift from the German Embassy. The tour concludes at the Museum of Secret Surveillance, which served various purposes over its history, including being one of Albania's first gynecology clinics.
The tour will end at the exit of the museum around 1 pm.
