Ever wondered what the Edo period was like in Japan? Join us on this private day trip to Kawagoe to explore "little Edo", an ancient castle town that has preserved its historic charm. You'll be accompanied by an exclusive guide that will explain the history and show you the cultural must-sees.
Private Day Trip to Kawagoe
After meeting your guide at Shunjuku station, you'll board the train for Kawagoe. The journey will take just under an hour.
Upon arrival, we'll visit Kita-in temple, an ancient Buddhist shrine built in the year 830, which houses important Rakan sculptures.
Next, we'll stroll through the city center, particularly Taisho Roman Street, reflecting life in the 1910s and 20s with buildings over 100 years old.
We'll also pass by the Ichiban-gai district to see the quintessential black houses of merchants that illustrate the Edo period. A visit to the Toki-No-Kane bell tower, built in the 17th century, is included.
The tour concludes with a stroll along Kashiya Yokocho, featuring stores selling traditional Japanese sweets. A local snack will be provided.
Afterward, you will return to Tokyo independently.
