Description

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Trieste or a central meeting point to begin our day trip to Postojna cave and Predjama castle.

After crossing the border, we will reach Postojna cave, a prominent tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of Europe's notable karst monuments. This site features the world's only underground electric train.

At Postojna, we will observe the proteus, a famous cave inhabitant, as we explore the cave's tunnels, passageways, and galleries adorned with stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years.

Next, we will visit Predjama castle. From the exterior, we will admire this fortress dating back to the 13th century, which is built into a rocky wall 123 meters high. We will discuss the architectural techniques of the Middle Ages used to construct such strong structures and the historical reasons for building a fortress near a cave entrance.

The castle was once a refuge for Erasmus de Lueg, which we'll explore during the tour.

After five hours of visiting these two Slovenian highlights, we will conclude our day.
