Visit to Moxos Jesuit Missions & Coitarama Lagoon
Our journey begins promptly at 6 am with a pick-up from your accommodation in Trinidad. We will then travel northward towards the historic towns of San Javier and San Pedro, notable for being part of the early Jesuit reductions in the Moxos province of southern Bolivia.
Our first point of interest is San Javier, perched on the right bank of the Mamoré River. As one of the earliest Jesuit missions in the region, it boasts the Church of San Javier, where we will delve into its historical significance. Following our visit, we will take a break for breakfast en route to our next location.
Upon arrival at the reduction of San Pedro, we will have the opportunity to view the recently restored church, built on the remnants of the original mission. Here, a delicious lunch featuring fried fish or dried meat accompanied by a refreshing fruity beverage awaits us.
After enjoying our meal, we will continue towards the Coitarama Lagoon, also referred to as Pistola Lake. During this leg of the trip, prepare to uncover the intriguing story behind its unique name!
The area around the lagoon offers a chance to witness diverse wildlife, including endemic birds, various insects, and mammals inhabiting the shoreline.
If we encounter adverse weather conditions that prevent us from reaching the lagoon, we will instead make our way to the banks of the Ipuru River, where you may spot playful freshwater dolphins in their natural habitat.
As the day draws to a close, we will retrace our steps back to Trinidad, with an expected return to your hotel around 6 pm.
