Chan Chan Day Trip & Artisanal Fishing in Huanchaco
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Trujillo and set off on our day trip to Chan Chan and Huanchaco, located in northeast Peru.
We will first head to Huanchaco, 30 minutes from Trujillo. We will visit the beach to watch fishermen using their caballito de totora reed watercraft. This traditional method of fishing is still practiced today, and you'll have the chance to try it yourself.
Next, we will visit the huachaques, totora reed farms, to learn about this aquatic South American plant. Afterward, we will go to the Church of the Virgen del Socorro, where we can enjoy a view of Huanchaco Bay.
We will stop for lunch at a nearby restaurant for a two-course meal accompanied by a local drink.
Following lunch, we'll visit the Chan Chan citadel, the largest mud city in the world. We will explore the pre-Columbian ruins of the Nik Ann Palace and its reliefs depicting birds and fish. The citadel contains secret passages that were used by inhabitants during Inca attacks.
We will return to Trujillo, arriving at 4 pm.
