Unveil the story behind the Lady of Cao, a religious leader who ruled Peru over 2,000 years ago on our El Brujo Day Trip. Discover the role of women in the pre-Columbian era and see where she exercised her power.

El Brujo Day Trip

At 10:20 am, we'll meet on Jirón Obregoso Street and set off for El Brujo and its antechamber Magdalena de Cao, located 37 miles (60 kilometers) north of Trujillo.

Upon arrival in this village from the Chimú culture, our guide will provide insights into the history of the Lady of Cao. The discovery of her remains demonstrated that women held high positions in this civilization, challenging previous archaeological claims of male-only rule.

We will see the monument to the Lady of Cao and explore traditional handicraft and pottery shops, as well as taste the typical Inca drink, chicha de añejo, made from corn.

Next, we will visit the El Brujo Archaeological Site, significant for its association with 6 different civilizations. The tour will cover ceremonial sites, including shaman tables and the Huaca Cao, a pyramid that housed the tomb of the region's ruler.

Additionally, we will visit the museum containing the mummified Lady of Cao and her tomb's jewelry, which includes semi-precious stones and gold and silver beads.

After this visit, a lunch stop will be made at a local restaurant. We'll return to Trujillo, dropping you off at the Plaza de Armas at 4 pm.
