Did you know that Tunisia is home to one of the largest Roman amphitheatres in the world? Discover it on this guided tour of the historic towns of Monastir and El Jem.

Monastir & El Jem Tour Itinerary

At 8 am, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Tunis for a three-hour drive to the archaeological site of El Jem. El Jem is known for its impressive Roman remains in Africa.

Your first stop will be the Amphitheatre of El Jem, one of the best preserved Roman stone ruins, and the third largest amphitheatre following the Coliseum in Rome and the Verona Arena, with a capacity of over thirty thousand people. After exploring this ancient venue, you will visit more archaeological sites in El Djem and learn about the town's history as a Carthaginian settlement. At around 1 pm, a typical lunch will be provided before continuing to Monastir, which is over an hour away.

Upon arrival in Monastir, you will tour the center, starting with the Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba, the final resting place of the first President of the Republic of Tunisia. You will also visit the Ribat of Monastir, a historic fortress built in the 8th century, offering views over the Mediterranean. The Ribat has served as a filming location for movies like Monty Python's Life of Brian.

Your tour will conclude as you head back to Tunisia, arriving around 4 pm.
