The magnificent amphitheatre of El Jem, the elegant Great Mosque of Kairouan, and the magical desert town of Douz await you on this 2-day tour of southern Tunisia.

Description

Day 1: El Jem – Matmata – Douz

After pick-up from your hotel in the morning, the tour begins at the amphitheatre of El Jem, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn about the gladiatorial battles that occurred here. The tour continues to the cave-houses of Matmata, carved into rocks for protection against sand storms.

Enjoy an hour for lunch in Matmata, followed by a trip to the Douz desert. Optional activities include a camel or quad bike ride for an additional fee. The day concludes in Douz, where you will have dinner and stay in a local hotel overnight.

Day 2: Douz – Chott Djerid – Oasis – Kairouan

After breakfast in Douz, depart for Chott Djerid to visit the salty lake. Then, visit the mountain oasis of Chebika and Tamerza.

A lunch break will be followed by a visit to the holy city of Kairouan to see the Great Mosque with its notable domes.

After the tour, return to the capital city and drop off at your booked hotel for the night.

The trip includes one night's accommodation with dinner at the Sahara Douz Hotel, or similar accommodation in Douz.
