Zaghouan Aqueduct and the Roman Water Temple are two essential sites to explore Tunisia's history with an expert English-speaking guide.
Zaghouan Day Trip Itinerary
Your day trip will begin at 8 am, with a pick-up from your hotel in Tunis. After a thirty-minute drive, you will arrive at the first stop: the Roman aqueduct of Zaghouan.
In the second century, under Emperor Hadrian, the Roman Empire constructed an aqueduct connecting a water source at Zaghouan with the ancient city of Carthage. A significant portion of the aqueduct still stands today, allowing you to explore this engineering marvel while your guide explains its construction and design, which were innovative for the time.
After the aqueduct, the tour proceeds to the outskirts of Zaghouan to the Roman Water Temple, also built under Emperor Hadrian. Here, your guide will discuss the importance of the sacred spring and its veneration in ancient times.
Following the tour, you'll enjoy a traditional meal of Turkish specialties at a restaurant in central Zaghouan, showcasing a fusion of Mediterranean and Arab cuisines.
After your meal, the return trip to Tunis will commence, with drop-off at your hotel around 5 pm.
