Zaghouan Day Trip
- 8 Stunden
Zaghouan Aqueduct and the Roman Water Temple are two significant sites for understanding Tunisia's history, guided by an expert English-speaking guide.
Zaghouan Day Trip Itinerary
Your day trip begins at 8 am with a pick-up from your hotel in Tunis, followed by a thirty-minute drive to the Roman aqueduct of Zaghouan.
In the second century, during Emperor Hadrian's reign, the Roman Empire faced challenges in northern Africa regarding water supply. To address this, they constructed an aqueduct linking a water source at Zaghouan with the city of Carthage. Much of the aqueduct remains intact, allowing exploration of this engineering feat while your guide explains its construction and design.
After the aqueduct, the tour proceeds to the outskirts of Zaghouan to visit the Roman Water Temple, also built under Emperor Hadrian. While admiring the portico, your guide will explain the importance of this sacred spring in ancient times.
Following the Temple visit, lunch will be served at a central Zaghouan restaurant, featuring a traditional meal of Turkish specialities that highlights Mediterranean and Arab cuisines.
After lunch, return to Tunis, with drop-off at your hotel at approximately 5 pm.
