Zaghouan Aqueduct and the Roman Water Temple are essential sites for understanding Tunisia's history. This tour is guided by an expert English-speaking guide.
Zaghouan Day Trip Itinerary
The day trip begins at 8 am with pickup from your hotel in Tunis. After a thirty-minute drive, the first stop is the Roman aqueduct of Zaghouan.
Constructed in the second century under Emperor Hadrian, the aqueduct was built to address the water supply issues in northern Africa by connecting a water source at Zaghouan with Carthage. Much of the aqueduct remains intact, allowing for exploration while the guide explains its engineering and design, which were advanced for their time.
Next, the tour proceeds to the outskirts of Zaghouan to visit the Roman Water Temple, also built under Hadrian's orders. The guide will discuss the importance of this sacred spring and its reverence in ancient times.
After the visit, lunch will be served at a restaurant in central Zaghouan, featuring traditional Turkish specialties, blending Mediterranean and Arab cuisines.
The return trip to Tunis will conclude the tour, with drop-off at your hotel around 5 pm.
