Discover fascinating pre-historic cave paintings with this guided tour of the Abrics de l'Ermita and a visit to the interpretation centre.
Abrics de l'Ermita Rock Art
We'll meet at your chosen time at the Pietat Chapel, located on the road between Tortosa and Ulldecona.
The tour will begin with a brief introduction to the spirituality behind the Levantine cave paintings in this area of Catalonia. Questions regarding what they represented and the sources of their dyes will be addressed during our visit to the Abrics de l'Ermita Rock Art Interpretation Centre, where we will learn about human life 7000 years ago.
Following the centre visit, we will walk to see three of the nine preserved shelters around the chapel. These caves feature an extraordinary set of cave paintings designated as a World Heritage Site.
This rock art from the Neolithic period reflects the civilization’s beliefs and myths, particularly related to hunting, while encapsulating their rituals in stone. These gatherings typically occurred in natural terrains offering protection from rain and winds.
Our guided tour will conclude two hours later as we take in breathtaking views of the El Montsiá region and the Serra de Godall mountain range.
