Explore the highest and largest salt desert in the world on this 2-day trip to the Salar de Uyuni. Discover the biodiversity hidden in these gigantic salt flats at 5,000 metres (16,404 feet) above sea level.
Description
Day 1
We will pick you up from your hotel in Uyuni and begin a 2-day tour of the Uyuni Salt Flat. The excursion starts with a visit to the Train Cemetery, where a guide will explain the history of the abandoned trains from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Next, we will explore the Salar de Uyuni, covering almost 11,000 square kilometres (4247 square miles). Major attractions include Colchani, salt piles, and the first hotel made of salt, which is now a museum. A unique lunch will be served in the salt desert, followed by a hike around Isla Incahuasi to see giant cacti reaching up to 10 metres (32 feet) high.
The day concludes with a sunset view in the desert, and we return to the hotel around 7 pm.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will visit the colonial Iglesia de Tomave church, a significant example of baroque architecture. We will then relax at the Saruvo hot springs before visiting Laguna K'asilla and Laguna Verde.
After lunch, we will start our journey back to Uyuni, arriving around 6 pm to conclude the 2-day tour.
