Description
Day 1
At the scheduled time, a pickup from your accommodation in Uyuni will initiate our captivating two-day exploration of the Uyuni Salt Flat.
Our journey begins with a visit to the Train Cemetery, a uniquely fascinating site that provides insight into the countless trains and locomotives abandoned from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Here, a knowledgeable guide will reveal the history behind this intriguing location.
Proceeding onwards, you will encounter the vastness of the Salar de Uyuni, recognized as the largest salt desert globally, covering nearly 11,000 square kilometers (4,247 square miles). The journey will allow you to explore its key attractions, including Colchani, the striking salt mounds, and the first-ever salt hotel, which has transitioned into an engaging museum.
During lunch, relish Bolivian cuisine amidst the stark beauty of the Salar de Uyuni, offering a distinct dining experience. Post-lunch, we’ll venture for a hike on Isla Incahuasi, an isolated island surrounded by the luminous vastness of salt, home to towering giant cacti reaching heights of 10 meters (32 feet).
As the day concludes, tour the desert's mesmerizing scenery while witnessing one of the most striking sunsets you’re likely to ever see. Ensure your camera is ready to capture this remarkable moment!
Our first day in the Salar de Uyuni wraps up around 7 pm as we return to your hotel.
Day 2
Following breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the colonial Iglesia de Tomave church. This architectural gem exemplifies Bolivia’s rich baroque heritage and shares remarkable stories—such as its role as shelter for Bolivian troops during the War of the Pacific.
Next, a visit to the Saruvo hot springs offers a perfect opportunity to unwind in its warm waters. This relaxing stop is followed by a trip to various stunning lagoons including Laguna K'asilla and Laguna Verde.
After enjoying a satisfying lunch, we begin our return journey to Uyuni, arriving around 6 pm and closing the chapter on this extraordinary 2-day journey through the Salar de Uyuni.
