Explore the highest and largest salt desert in the world on this 2-day trip to the Salar de Uyuni at 5,000 metres (16,404 feet) above sea level.
Description
Day 1
We will pick you up from your hotel in Uyuni to begin the 2-day tour of the Uyuni Salt Flat.
The excursion starts at the Train Cemetery, where our guide will explain the history behind the abandoned trains from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Next, we'll experience the vastness of the Salar de Uyuni, covering almost 11,000 square kilometres (4247 square miles). Key attractions include Colchani, salt heaps, and the first salt hotel, now a museum.
Lunch will be in the salt desert, featuring Bolivian gastronomy against the Salar's stunning landscape. Afterward, we'll hike around Isla Incahuasi, home to giant cacti up to 10 metres (32 feet) high.
We will conclude Day 1 with a sunset over the desert before returning to the hotel around 7 pm.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will visit the colonial Iglesia de Tomave church, recognized for its baroque architecture and historical significance during the War of the Pacific.
Then, we will relax at the Saruvo hot springs, followed by visits to Laguna K'asilla and Laguna Verde.
After lunch, we will head back to Uyuni, arriving around 6 pm, concluding the 2-day tour of the Salar de Uyuni.
