Day Trip to Morella & Peñíscola

Travel to Castellón province to explore the medieval town of Morella and Peñíscola with a focus on Pope Luna's history.

Description

At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your selected meeting point in Valencia and head north toward Morella. The journey lasts just over two hours, parallel to the coastline, leading to this walled hill-top town.

We will stroll along steep cobblestone streets and stop at local craft stalls, concluding our visit at the historic castle atop the town. This 13th-century Islamic fortress played a significant role for the Crown of Aragon, and after our castle tour, you will have some free time to explore Morella further and sample local cuisine.

After lunch, we will proceed to Peñíscola, where we will discuss the origins of this historical city, particularly highlighting its association with Pope Luna.

Upon arrival, our first stop will be the castle situated on the hilltop by the shore, which served as Pope Luna's palace and library. Information about this controversial religious figure will be provided during the tour.

We will then explore the old town of Peñíscola, featuring Islamic, Roman, and Templar architecture, while following the outline of the city’s old wall.

After a full day of exploring, we will return to Valencia and drop you off at your selected meeting point.
