Spend the day visiting one of Chile's main Humboldt penguin colonies on our excursion to Cachagua Island. We'll set off from Viña del Mar to see these animals up close.
Cachagua Island Penguin Watching
At 9 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Viña del Mar and head north. The route runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean, passing through Reñaca, Concón, and the Aconcagua River's mouth.
We will arrive in Zapallar, where we'll board a fishermen's boat to Cachagua Island, home to a significant colony of Humboldt penguins. During the 1-hour boat trip, we will also see pelicans, seagulls, and ducks residing on the island, which supports diverse seabirds.
The boat trip concludes at Zapallar dock. Afterwards, we'll visit a local empanada bar to try this Chilean delicacy, accompanied by a drink of your choice, either soft drink or mineral water.
Finally, we will return to your hotel in Viña del Mar, with drop-off at 3 pm.
Animal Sightings
Cachagua Island is a prime location for spotting Humboldt penguins, but sightings can vary due to weather conditions and the breeding and rearing seasons of different species.
