Embark on a memorable journey to one of Chile's prominent colonies of Humboldt penguins as we explore Cachagua Island. Departing from Viña del Mar, this experience promises a close encounter with these fascinating creatures.

Cachagua Island Penguin Observation

At 9 am, our adventure begins with a pick-up at your hotel in Viña del Mar. We will head north, traveling along the scenic route adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, passing through the charming areas of Reñaca, Concón, and the estuary of the Aconcagua River.

Your journey culminates in Zapallar, a picturesque coastal village, where we will board a fishing vessel for our voyage. Setting sail towards Cachagua Island, an untouched oasis, we will reach one of the premier colonies of Humboldt penguins on the Chilean coastline.

Over the course of an hour, prepare to witness a variety of wildlife including pelicans, seagulls, and ducks, alongside the amiable penguins that populate this diverse ecosystem, rich in seabird species.

Our boat trip concludes at the Zapallar dock, where we will then venture to a local empanada bar to indulge in this traditional Chilean treat. You will have the option to pair your snack with a beverage of your preference, either a soft drink or mineral water.

Following our culinary experience, we will return you to your hotel in Viña del Mar, arriving by 3 pm.

Cachagua Island stands out as an excellent location for spotting Humboldt penguins along the Chilean coast. However, wildlife visibility can vary. The number of penguins you may see depends on several unpredictable factors, including the weather conditions and the breeding cycles of various species.
