Tour of La Antigua and Cempoala
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Veracruz at 9 am, as we journey toward the archaeological wonder of Cempoala. Renowned as one of the most significant Mesoamerican locations, this site served as the capital of the Totonacapan kingdom and was the first urban area encountered by the Spanish during their arrival in the Americas.
During the guided visit to Cempoala, you will explore its remarkable structures, such as the Temple of the Sun, the sanctuary dedicated to the wind deity Ehécatl, and the Temple of the Chimneys among others. Furthermore, if the timing is right, you may witness the Ritual Ceremony of the Voladores de Papantla. This spectacular fertility dance involves four participants climbing a tall pole and descending in a mesmerizing tribute to nature and the spiritual realm.
Following our exploration of Cempoala, our next stop will be the historic town of La Antigua, recognized as the first permanent Spanish settlement in the Americas. Here, we will visit the Ermita del Rosario church, the Casa del Cabildo—the first Spanish town hall in the New World—and the residence of the Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortés. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear the fascinating tale of an ancient tree that we will share during the tour.
As our tour concludes, we will return you to your hotel in Veracruz, arriving by approximately 2 pm.
