Quiahuiztlán, Cempoala & La Antigua Tour
- 9 Stunden
Discover two of the most important archaeological sites in Veracruz: Quiahuiztlán and Cempoala. In addition, you'll visit La Antigua, the place of residence of Hernán Cortés.
Quiahuiztlán, Cempoala & La Antigua Tour
We'll begin our trip by travelling approximately 75 km (46 miles) north to the archaeological zone of Quiahuiztlan. This area features vestiges of a pre-Hispanic cemetery of the Totonac culture. There are also remains of pyramids and a ball game with a panoramic view of the beaches of Villa Rica in the Gulf of Mexico.
Next, we will arrive at Cempoala, known as the place of "twenty waters" due to its surrounding rivers. This archaeological zone is significant in the Totonaca culture, where we will see key structures such as the Temple of the Chimeneas and the circle of the Gladiators among other pyramidal bases.
We will then continue to Antigua, a small town near the Huitzilapan River. Here, we will find legacies of the Spanish conquest, including the Casa del Cabildo (Town Council House), the first Catholic church in Mexico, and the house of Hernán Cortés.
The tour concludes after approximately 7 hours, returning you to the city of Veracruz or Boca del Río.
