The Los Tuxtlas region of Mexico is a place filled with enchantment and intrigue. Experience its wonders firsthand with an unforgettable trip starting from Veracruz, where you will also have the chance to encounter the playful monkeys of Catemaco.
Excursion to Tuxtlas and Catemaco
Your adventure will begin at 8 am with a pickup from your hotel in Veracruz, followed by a journey south towards Santiago Tuxtla. This town is notable for being home to the largest Olmec head in southern Mexico, a monumental stone sculpture that is sure to astonish you!
After enjoying a stroll through the picturesque Benito Juarez Park in Santiago Tuxtla, we will proceed to Eyipantla Falls, a breathtaking waterfall that boasts a drop of more than 160 feet (50 meters). Here, you can take a serene walk through the surrounding lush jungles and appreciate the stunning scenery.
Next, we will make our way to the charming town of Catemaco. Upon arrival, we will board a boat for a delightful trip across the Laguna Encantada (Enchanted Lagoon). This leisurely cruise will allow us to explore the waters and visit mesmerizing islets, including Monkey Island and Heron Island, where you can interact with the local wildlife.
After the boat ride, you will have approximately 90 minutes of free time to explore the area’s best dining spots and savor the flavors of the local cuisine.
Once you've enjoyed your meal, we will head back to Veracruz, with a planned drop-off back at your hotel by around 8:30 pm.
