Chaves Day Trip
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Verín in a 4x4 or a jeep to cross the border into Portugal and head to Chaves, which takes approximately 30 minutes.
Once there, we'll walk through the town to visit its most notable sites. We will start by viewing the façade of the medieval castle of Chaves, home to a military museum, which dates back to pre-Roman times and was reinforced during the Muslim occupation.
Next, we will visit the defensive structures of São Francisco and São Neutel, built in the 17th century. We will then proceed to the Roman bridge over the Tâmega River, commissioned by Trajan, the first Hispano-Roman emperor. We will also observe the column with inscriptions commemorating its construction at the end of the 1st century.
To conclude the tour, we will see the Roman thermal baths in Chaves, which are known for having some of the warmest medicinal waters in Europe.
After a 3-hour and 30-minute tour, we will return to Verín and drop you off at your hotel.
