From its first voyage in 1955 until its last diplomatic trip to Brazil in 1973, the ship served multiple purposes. It assisted cod fishermen on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and Greenland, functioned as a hospital ship, served as a tug boat, and even acted as an icebreaker.
