Vienna Ghosts and Legends Tour
We'll meet at Helmut Zilk Square to begin this chilling tour of the mysteries and legends in Vienna.
First, we'll stop at the Vienna State Opera, where we will discuss the expulsion of the Jews by the Nazis and the building's damage during World War II. Many historical facts are tied to this site.
Then, we'll walk along Augustinerstrasse to learn about Erzsébet Báthory, the 'Blood Countess', notorious for murdering over 30 young women to maintain her appearance.
During this tour, we will pass St. Joseph's Square and St. Michael's Square before reaching the parish of the Friars Minor, where cannonball holes from the conflict between the Habsburg Monarchy and the Ottoman Empire can still be seen.
Next, we'll uncover the hidden meaning behind the House of the Five Murders and stop at Am Hof square, the site of public executions.
We'll also explore Hoher Markt, the Heiligenkreuzerhof building, Schönlatern alley, and the 'bloody alley', known for a massacre during the Knights Templar era.
Finally, we will arrive at St. Stephen's Cathedral to discuss the significance of the gargoyles on its façade. After an hour-and-a-half tour, we will conclude at the entrance to the church.
