Sail along the coast of São Miguel and discover the wildlife of this Azores island on a birdwatching boat tour.
Azores Marine Birdwatching Expedition
We'll meet at 8 am at the port in Vila Franca do Campo. At the dock, located in the south of São Miguel Island, there will be a brief introduction to the birds of the Azores.
After learning about the main bird species and their migratory patterns, we'll set off on a zodiac tour along the coast of São Miguel. We will sail the south coast, where the largest colonies of birds reside. Accompanied by a naturalist guide, we will identify the most notable endemic birds.
During the cruise, we will observe sandpipers, shearwaters, egrets, and other native birds such as buzzards. High-precision binoculars will be provided for detailed bird watching.
The zodiac tour will proceed to Vila Franca do Campo Islet, offering chances to see other birds, including wagtails, noted for their seasonal feather color changes.
Finally, at 11 am we will return to the departure pier.
Bird-watching
São Miguel and Vila Franca do Campo Islet are among the best locations in the Azores for bird watching. The number and species observed will depend on various factors, including weather conditions and the breeding seasons of the birds.
