Sail along the coast of São Miguel and discover its wildlife on this birdwatching boat tour.
Azores Marine Birdwatching Expedition
We'll meet at 8 am at the port in Vila Franca do Campo. At the dock, located on the south side of São Miguel Island, we will have a brief introduction to the birds of the Azores. This Atlantic archipelago boasts great ornithological diversity.
After learning about the main bird species and their migratory patterns, we'll embark on a zodiac tour along the coast of São Miguel. We will sail the south coast, home to the largest bird colonies. A naturalist guide will accompany us to help identify notable endemic birds.
As we cruise alongside São Miguel, we will see sandpipers, shearwaters, egrets, and other native species like buzzards. High-precision binoculars will be provided for better viewing.
The zodiac tour will continue to Vila Franca do Campo Islet, where we will observe additional birds, such as wagtails, notable for their seasonal feather color changes. We will learn to identify these small birds.
Finally, we will return to the departure pier by 11 am.
