Description
Join us for a tour dedicated to the history of the Azores, starting at the Vila Franca do Campo Marina. Our first stop will be the Ethnography Museum, showcasing artifacts from various archaeological digs on São Miguel, highlighting the oldest traditions on the island.
Next, we will visit Vila Franca do Campo's old town to see key monuments, including the São Miguel Arcanjo Church, São Lázaro Church, António da Silva Cabral Garden, and the commemoration site of the D. António Prior do Crato Naval Battle. This part of the tour focuses on memorable achievements of the colonisers, reflecting the rise of the Portuguese Empire in the Atlantic.
We will then proceed to the Nossa Senhora da Paz hermitage, located at a hilltop, which offers panoramic views of Vila Franca do Campo. Following this, we will visit a pineapple farm to learn about the importance of this product since the late 19th century.
The tour will conclude with tasting Queijadas da Vila, a typical sweet from Vila Franca do Campo. After 3 hours, we will return to the starting point.
