Join this tour to experience the history of the Azores. The historical significance of these Portuguese Islands is notable, and the colonists recognized this. At the scheduled time, we will meet at the Vila Franca do Campo Marina to begin our colonisers' tour.
We will first visit the Ethnography Museum, showcasing artifacts from archaeological digs on São Miguel, highlighting the oldest traditions on this island.
Next, we will explore Vila Franca do Campo's old town, visiting significant sites such as the São Miguel Arcanjo Church, São Lázaro Church, António da Silva Cabral Garden, and the site commemorating the D. António Prior do Crato Naval Battle.
Throughout the tour, we will discuss the impactful achievements of the colonisers, particularly during the rise of the Portuguese Empire in the Atlantic. Our next destination is the Nossa Senhora da Paz hermitage, renowned for its panoramic views of Vila Franca do Campo.
We will also visit a pineapple farm to understand the significance of pineapple production since the late 19th century. The tour concludes with a tasting of Queijadas da Vila, a typical sweet from São Miguel, created in Vila Franca do Campo.
After 3 hours, we will return to the starting point.
