Description
This tour allows you to explore the history of the Azores, highlighting the strategic importance of these islands. At the scheduled time, we will meet at the Vila Franca do Campo Marina to begin.
We will first visit the Ethnography Museum, home to artifacts from various archaeological digs on São Miguel, providing insight into the oldest traditions on this island.
Next, we will explore Vila Franca do Campo's old town, viewing main monuments such as the São Miguel Arcanjo Church, São Lázaro Church, the António da Silva Cabral Garden, and the site commemorating the D. António Prior do Crato Naval Battle.
During the tour, we will discuss notable achievements of the colonisers, marking a significant moment in the history of Portugal as part of the Portuguese Empire in the Atlantic. We will then proceed to the Nossa Senhora da Paz hermitage, offering stunning panoramic views.
Our tour will also include a visit to a pineapple farm to learn about the significance of this product from the late 19th century to the present. To conclude, we will taste the local Queijadas da Vila, a traditional sweet from São Miguel, before returning to our starting point after approximately 3 hours.
