On this boat trip along the coast of São Miguel, you'll admire whales and dolphins. You'll sail the waters of the famous islet of Vila Franca do Campo.
Whale Watching + Vila Islet Boat Tour
We will meet at the port of Vila Franca do Campo at the agreed time. A brief theoretical introduction to local wildlife will precede a discussion of safety guidelines for high seas. Afterwards, we'll board a zodiac boat to spot whales and dolphins in the Azores.
This archipelago is home to a range of marine wildlife, particularly blue and humpback whales, and bottlenose dolphins. Other mammals such as sperm and pilot whales also inhabit these waters.
A naturalist guide expert in Azorean wildlife will accompany us, helping identify different species by observing details such as tail size and skin color.
After whale watching, we'll sail to the islet of Vila Franca do Campo, where we can admire its caldera. If conditions permit, we may observe seabirds such as Cory's shearwater and the black-footed tern.
After three hours at sea, we will return to the departure dock.
Whale Watching
São Miguel Island's coast is an excellent location to see cetaceans. However, animal sightings are unpredictable, influenced by weather and breeding seasons.
