Walking Tour of Vila Viçosa
We will meet on Avenida Duques de Bragança to begin our guided walking tour. The tour includes major tourist attractions of Vila Viçosa.
We will start by visiting the Pelourinho, a marble pillar marking the entrance to the Castle of Vila Viçosa. The route includes important monuments such as the historic ramparts, the Church of Our Lady of the Conception, and ancient Roman archaeological findings.
Next, we will visit the tomb of the poet Florbela Espanca, a key figure in Portugal's feminist movement, and discuss notable locals such as the mathematician Bento Jesus Caraça and the painter Henrique Pousão.
The 2.5-hour walking tour will continue to the Church of St John the Evangelist and the Convent of Chagas de Cristo. Our next stop will be the Ducal Palace, where we will explore its museum and library, detailing the history of this site, which was the former residence of the Dukes of Bragança.
The tour will conclude with a visit to the exterior of the Igreja dos Agostinhos church, followed by a return to our original meeting point on Avenida Duques de Bragança.
