Santuario de Iguaque Hiking Tour
At the designated time, we'll meet at Carrera 9 in Villa de Leyva to set off toward the Iguaque Flora and Fauna Sanctuary, part of Colombia's national parks.
We'll start our hiking route of approximately 27.96 miles (4.5 kilometers). During this approximately 6-hour hike, we'll pass through moorlands full of local fauna including squirrels, armadillos, rabbits, and bats. We'll encounter various flora such as oak trees, pine trees, mosses, lichens, orchids, ferns, and mortiños.
We'll also see the Iguaque Lagoon, a sacred aquifer for the Muisca Indians, which is home to up to three species of woodpeckers. We will learn about the legend of the goddess Bachué.
Afterward, we'll ascend to an altitude of 13,123 feet (4,000 meters) to observe the natural site from the heights.
Finally, we'll take the minibus back to Villa de Leyva, arriving at the meeting point after a total of 8 hours.
