Immerse yourself in the history of the first Austro-German settlement as we embark on a day trip to Pozuzo and Prusia. We will discover the foundation of these towns in Oxapampa, established by European settlers.

Day Trip to Pozuzo & Prusia

Our adventure begins at 6 am on Avenida Leopoldo Krausse, where we will depart from Villa Rica towards the Oxapampa province. Along the route, witness the stunning landscapes of central Peru, including sights like the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park and the picturesque Rayantambo and Yulitunky waterfalls.

Our first destination is Pozuzo, a town established in 1895 by Austro-German settlers. This location holds the distinction of being the first colony of its kind globally. The settlers brought with them unique traditions and architectural influences, which we can still observe today in the wooden buildings with gable roofs typical of Central European style.

Upon arrival, we will explore the town’s landmarks, including the Colonists' cemetery and a replica of the Norton, the ship that carried the immigrants to Peru.

Next on our itinerary is a visit to the Schafferer Museum, where we will delve into the narrative of the Austro-German colonization through artifacts brought over by the early inhabitants from Europe.

Afterward, our journey continues to Prusia, known for its charming Germanic architecture. Here, we will also enjoy a traditional lunch featuring a meat dish accompanied by a drink.

Post-lunch, we will visit the Emperor Wilhelm I Suspension Bridge, followed by stops at an arts and crafts shop and a craft brewery, where we will have the opportunity to sample some local beer. Cheers to that!

As the day winds down, we will make our way back to Villa Rica, with drop-off scheduled between 5 and 6 pm at the initial meeting point.
