Prepare to immerse yourself in the high Andean landscapes and witness the captivating geysers on this extraordinary excursion to Laguna Brava, one of the most remarkable natural areas in La Rioja.

Description

You can select one of the following tour options when you make your reservation. Both itineraries include hotel pickup in Villa Unión, transportation in an offroading vehicle, and a guide. Note that both routes will traverse high elevations ranging from 2,500 to 4,500 meters (8,200 to 14,760 feet).

Laguna Brava (8.5 hours)

The journey begins at your hotel in Villa Union, heading north towards Vinchina. Upon arrival in Vinchina, we'll continue through the Quebrada de la Troya. At the end of this gorge, we'll spot dinosaur footprints before reaching the town of Jagüé.

Departing from Jagüé, we proceed through the Quebrada Santo Domingo, noticing several mountain shelters built between 1862 and 1874, after the Army of the Andes passed through this area. Our journey leads us to the Laguna Brava Provincial Reserve, a high Andean saltwater lake near the Argentine-Chilean border.

Exploration begins with a visit to the Laguna Brava Viewpoint to observe various species of vicuñas, guanacos, and other Andean wildlife. We then proceed to the Golfito de los Flamencos to observe flamingos up close.

Before returning to Villa Union, we'll stop at Laguna Brava to view the remnants of an airplane that made an emergency landing in 1964.

Laguna Brava, Geysers, and Laguna Mulas Muertas (10 hours)

If you choose this extended option, we'll include a tour of the Laguna Brava geysers, exploring the volcanic phenomena and their significance.

Continuing our route, we'll visit the Laguna Mulas Muertas refuge, where we'll encounter a variety of Andean wildlife.

From Laguna Mulas Muertas, we'll make our way back to your hotel in Villa Union.
