Prepare to be awed by the breathtaking blue expanse of the Corona del Inca crater, a magnificent natural gem nestled in the province of La Rioja on our day trip from Villa Unión.
Description
At the designated time, we'll collect you from your hotel in Villa Unión. As dawn breaks, we will start a scenic road trip through the extensive landscapes of Argentina's La Rioja region. We will travel in a rugged 4x4 vehicle to the northern parts of this province, bordering Chile.
Our first destination will be the Jagüe Mountain Range, followed by a brief stop for breakfast if you wish. We will then proceed to the Quebrada del Peñón Gorge and onward into the Laguna Brava Provincial Reserve, which features saltwater lagoons and is home to Andean wildlife such as vicuñas and guanacos.
The journey continues through the Pampa del Veladero, where you will see the emergence of large ice mounds. After a break for a packed picnic lunch, we will follow the Veladero River bed to the towering Mount Pissis, which stands at 6,882 meters (22,578 feet) above sea level.
At the base of Mount Pissis, we will explore the enchanting Corona del Inca, located at an elevation of 5,500 meters (18,044 feet). This crater contains a striking lake of meltwater. After exploring the crater, we will begin our return trip to your Villa Unión hotel, arriving approximately 15 hours after pickup.
