Join us on this bird-watching tour on the Mahaica River from Georgetown, featuring the Hoatzin, the national bird of Guyana, alongside a boat ride on one of the country's longest rivers.
Bird Watching in the Mahaica River
Pick-up from your hotel in Georgetown is scheduled for 4:30 am. We will depart along the Demerara coast towards the Mahaica River.
After an hour-long drive, we will board a boat and cruise upstream at sunrise, searching for various bird species. The trip will focus on the Hoatzin.
During the boat ride, we will explore the Hoatzin bird, which possesses an intestine similar to that of cows and goats and descends from the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx.
We will also observe species like the blood-colored woodpecker, white-bellied grosbeak, crab hawk, green-tailed jacamar, and little Cuckoo, along with animals like otters and monkeys.
Additionally, we will learn about the flora surrounding the Mahaica River. We will then return to enjoy a local breakfast near the river.
Return to your hotel in Georgetown is planned for 9:30 am, concluding the tour by approximately 10:30 am.
