Explore one of the darkest episodes of World War II with a visit to the Treblinka memorial, where more Jews were murdered than in any other Nazi extermination camp apart from Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Description
On the day of the activity, we'll meet in front of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews at the indicated time. We'll then travel northwest from the Polish capital to the Treblinka Memorial.
After a 1.5-hour journey, we'll arrive in the woods of the Treblinka village, where the most deadly phase of the Final Solution occurred starting in July 1942. During the tour, we'll visit the exhibition area to learn about Operation Reinhard.
Next, we'll walk along the symbolic railway track to the main memorial commemorating the 800,000 victims, where we will see the cracked granite tower and other memorial spaces symbolizing the cremation pits.
We'll conclude by visiting additional sites, including the quarry and the former forced labour camp of Treblinka I. The tour will cover the heroic uprising of prisoners in August 1943 and the attempts made by the Nazis to erase evidence after the camp's closure.
After the visit, there will be an hour of free time in the nearby town for lunch. We will then return to Warsaw, arriving back at the starting point after approximately 7 hours.
