Ticket to Whitby Abbey

This ticket to Whitby Abbey will take you on a journey to England in the Middle Ages. On your visit, you'll learn about the Abbey's history and discover its links with the Anglican and Catholic churches.

Description

Located on the coast, just 75 kilometres (46 miles) from York, the impressive ruins of Whitby Abbey reveal over 1,000 years of history. Despite invasions, robberies, bombings, and abandonment by Henry VIII in the 16th century, the skeleton of this Benedictine abbey has largely remained intact.

The abbey, perched on a hilltop with wonderful views of the North Sea, has served as a reference point for sailors and is said to have inspired Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. You can read about these and other curiosities on the information boards in the visitor's centre.
