Description

Whitby Abbey, located on the coast approximately 75 kilometres (46 miles) from York, presents impressive ruins that reveal over 1,000 years of history.

Despite historical invasions, robberies, bombings, and abandonment by Henry VIII in the 16th century, much of this Benedictine abbey remains largely intact.

Situated on a hilltop with views of the North Sea, the abbey has served as a landmark for sailors and is believed to have inspired Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. These points of interest can be explored through the information boards in the visitor's centre.

Whitby Abbey is open from Monday to Sunday at the following times:

March 29 - October 29: 10 am to 5 pmOctober 30 - March 28: 10 am to 4 pm

Final admission is 30 minutes before closing time. Hours may change.
