- 1 Bewertung
This ticket to Whitby Abbey will take you on a journey to England in the Middle Ages. During your visit, you'll learn about the Abbey's history and its connections to the Anglican and Catholic churches.
Description
Located on the coast, just 75 kilometres (46 miles) from York, Whitby Abbey boasts impressive ruins that narrate an extensive history of more than 1,000 years.
Despite invasions, robberies, bombings, and abandonment by Henry VIII in the 16th century, the structure of this Benedictine abbey has remained largely intact.
The abbey, perched on a hilltop with wonderful views of the North Sea, has served as a reference point for sailors and is said to have inspired Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. These curiosities can be explored through the information boards in the visitor's centre.
