Miles Canyon Hike
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Sternwheeler Hotel main door in Whitehorse. A bus will take us on our hiking route along the Yukon River to explore the area around the Miles canyon.
For 2 hours, we'll hike around the volcanic rocks that constitute the Miles Canyon, enjoying views of forests and trails complemented by the turquoise color of the Yukon River.
As we continue through the outskirts of Whitehorse, we'll learn about the area's history and its significance in the city's development. The gold rush that occurred in the region was pivotal in establishing Whitehorse as the finish point for paddle-wheel riverboats navigating the river.
To further understand the gold rush history, we'll visit Canyon City, a ghost town designated as a Yukon government Heritage Site. During the 1898 gold rush, Miles Canyon posed a significant challenge for those traveling along the Yukon River.
We'll return to Whitehorse at approximately 4:30 pm.
