With this hike around Miles Canyon, you'll observe the scenery of the Yukon and learn about the gold rush stories in Whitehorse.

Miles Canyon Hike

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the Sternwheeler Hotel main door in Whitehorse. A bus will take us on our hiking route along the Yukon River to explore the area around the Miles Canyon.

For three hours, we will hike around the volcanic rocks of Miles Canyon, enjoying views of the forests and trails highlighted by the turquoise color of the Yukon River.

As we continue through the outskirts of Whitehorse, we will discuss the history and significance of the area that contributed to the development of the city. The gold rush played a key role in the establishment of Whitehorse and was the finishing point for paddle-wheel riverboats navigating the river.

To explore the gold rush history, we'll visit Canyon City, a ghost town designated as a Yukon government Heritage Site. During the 1898 gold rush, the Miles Canyon presented one of the most challenging obstacles for travelers along the Yukon River.

We will return to Whitehorse at approximately 4 pm.
