Miles Canyon Hike

At the specified time, we will meet at the Sternwheeler Hotel main door in Whitehorse. A bus will take us on our hiking route along the Yukon River to explore the area around the Miles canyon.

For 2 hours, we will hike around the volcanic rocks of the Miles Canyon and enjoy views of the area filled with forests and trails, complemented by the turquoise color of the Yukon River.

As we proceed through the vast outskirts of Whitehorse, we will learn about the history and significance of the area that contributed to the city's development. The gold rush in the region was pivotal in the establishment of Whitehorse and marked the end point for paddle-wheel riverboats navigating the river.

To appreciate the gold rush history, we will visit Canyon City, a ghost town recognized as a Yukon government Heritage Site. During the 1898 gold rush, the Miles Canyon posed one of the most challenging obstacles for travelers on the Yukon River.

We will return to Whitehorse at approximately 4:30 pm.
