Beatrix Potter Lake District Tour
At 9:05 am, we'll meet at Windermere train station and board a minibus to Wray Castle, located 20 minutes away.
At this fortress, protected by the National Trust, we'll explore the connections between Beatrix Potter and the Lake District. The author celebrated her 16th birthday here, igniting her love for the region’s mountains and lakes, which comprise the largest national park in Great Britain.
After viewing the exterior of this 19th-century neo-Gothic castle, we'll proceed to the village of Near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter was married.
In Near Sawrey, we'll visit landmarks featured in Potter's illustrations, including the Tower Bank Arms and Hill Top, which she purchased using proceeds from her early books.
Next, we will head to Esthwaite Water, regarded by Potter as "ultra-romantic." In the nearby village of Hawkshead, she met her husband, William Heelis.
The tour will culminate with visits to properties acquired by the writer, including Tarn Hows, Coniston Water, and Yewdale Valley, while discussing locations from the film Miss Potter.
We'll conclude the tour at 1:05 pm, returning to the starting point.
