On this Brontë Sisters tour, we'll explore the landscapes of the Lake District that inspired Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
Brontë Sisters Tour
We'll meet at 9 am at Station Precinct and depart Windermere to enter Brontë Country, where the Brontë sisters grew up. The first stop will be the Lake District National Park, a source of inspiration for the sisters' works. We will visit Cowan Bridge, where they attended the Clergy Daughter's School.
Next, we will travel through Lancashire to Wycoller, which inspired Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre. We will enjoy the village's rustic atmosphere and its Gothic and Romanesque ruins.
The tour continues at Ponden Hall, which inspired Thrushcross Grange, home of the family in Wuthering Heights. The location's resemblance to the settings in both Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall will be discussed.
We will then proceed to Haworth, where we will visit the parsonage where the Brontë family lived and the Brontë Parsonage Museum, which houses their personal belongings.
On our last stop, we will visit the family cemetery (where all but Anne are buried), the Black Bull Inn, and the church where their father served as parson. The tour will conclude with a return to Windermere at 5:30 pm.
