Brontë Sisters Tour
We'll meet at 9 am at Station Precinct and depart Windermere for Brontë Country, where the authors grew up. The tour includes landscapes of the Lake District National Park, a significant influence on the novels. Our first stop will be Cowan Bridge, where the sisters attended the Clergy Daughter's School.
Next, we will proceed through Lancashire to Wycoller, the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre. The village features bridges and Gothic and Romanesque ruins.
We will then visit Ponden Hall, which inspired Emily Brontë's Thrushcross Grange in Wuthering Heights, and discuss its resemblance to settings in Anne Brontë's works.
The tour continues to Haworth, home of the Brontë Parsonage Museum, featuring the largest collection of the sisters' belongings, including furniture, dresses, and books.
Finally, we will explore the family cemetery, visit the Black Bull Inn, and see the church where their father served. The tour concludes at 5:30 pm as we return to Windermere.
