Lake District Half-Day Tour
At 2 pm, we'll meet at Windermere train station and board a minibus to explore the north of the Lake District National Park, the largest in the UK.
The first stop will be at Kirkstone Inn, the highest inhabited building in the park, offering views of Lake Windermere and Ambleside. We will then descend into the valley of the River Rothay to see Brothers Water Lake and the towns of Patterdale and Glenridding. Next, we'll visit Ullswater Lake, the second-largest spring in the Lake District, and discuss its connection to poet William Wordsworth.
We will then proceed to Blencathra, notable for its 868-meter-high summit and the Sharp Edge slopes, before visiting the Castlerigg Stone Circle, a megalithic site. Our tour continues to Derwentwater Lake, known for being the location of some of Beatrix Potter's vacation homes, and where scenes from Star Wars were filmed.
Next, we'll stop at Ashness Bridge, the most photographed bridge in the Lake District, and enjoy views from Surprise View, overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake, the Solway Firth, and the distant mountains of Scotland.
In the final part of the tour, we will see Thirlmere, the Dunmail Raise mountain pass, as well as Grasmere and Rydal Water lakes. The excursion will conclude around 6:20 pm at the starting point.
