Did you know that the Lake District is the largest national park in the UK? On this half-day tour from Windermere, we'll enjoy its incredible scenery and see eight of its springs.
Lake District Half-Day Tour
At 2 pm, we'll meet at Windermere train station and board a minibus to explore the north of the Lake District National Park.
The first stop is Kirkstone Inn, the highest inhabited building in the park, offering views of Lake Windermere and the town of Ambleside.
Next, we will descend into the valley of the River Rothay to see Brothers Water Lake and the towns of Patterdale and Glenridding. We will then visit the second largest spring, Ullswater Lake, and discuss its connection to poet William Wordsworth.
We will continue to Blencathra, known for its 868-meter-high summit, and visit the Castlerigg Stone Circle, a megalithic monument.
Following this, we will visit Derwentwater Lake, home to two vacation houses owned by author Beatrix Potter, and a filming location for some scenes from Star Wars.
Our next stops include Ashness Bridge and Surprise View, which offers views of Bassenthwaite Lake, the Solway Firth, and the Scottish mountains.
Finally, we will see Thirlmere, the Dunmail Raise mountain pass, as well as Grasmere and Rydal Water.
The excursion will finish around 6:20 pm at the starting point.
