Yellowknife Ice Road Trip

  • 2 Stunden

Discover the Yellowknife Ice Road through our tour that navigates the frozen landscapes of the Northwestern Territories, constructed every January.

Yellowknife Ice Road Trip

At 2 pm, pick-up will be from your hotel in Yellowknife to the shores of the Great Slave Lake. In winter, this waterbody freezes, forming the Ice Road.

Participants will walk, drive, and lie down on this unique winter track, which exists only between December and April. The trip includes views of traditional boat-houses on the lake's shores and insights into the local customs of the inhabitants.

The tour features a visit to the snow castle, located on the Ice Road. This structure, which only stands during winter, is built in a different style annually, providing an opportunity for photographs next to its walls and battlements as a souvenir.

The Ice Road links Yellowknife with the First Nations community of Dettah, allowing participants to learn about the ancestry of this region’s cultural heritage. The return journey over the Great Slave Lake on the Ice Road concludes at your hotel by 3:30 p.m.

The snow castle

The snow castle is open only during March. If the tour occurs before March, participants will see the castle under construction.
