Discover the Yellowknife Ice Road on this trip through the frozen landscapes of the Northwestern Territories. The Ice Road is constructed every January.
Yellowknife Ice Road Trip
We will pick you up from your hotel in Yellowknife at 2 pm and head to the shores of the Great Slave Lake. In winter, the lake freezes, allowing the creation of the Ice Road.
During the trip, we will walk, drive, and lie down on this winter track, which exists between December and April. You will see traditional boat-houses along the shores and learn about the customs of the local residents.
Our journey includes a visit to the snow castle, a fortress built on the Ice Road that only stands during the winter, with a unique style each year. You can take pictures next to its crafted walls as a souvenir.
The Ice Road connects Yellowknife with the First Nations community of Dettah, where you will learn about the ancestry of this culture that has inhabited the region for generations.
We will return over the Great Slave Lake on the Ice Road, arriving at your hotel at 3:30 p.m.
The snow castle
The snow castle is only open during March. If you take the tour before March, you will see it being built.
