Yellowknife Ice Road Trip

At 2 pm, we will pick you up from your hotel in Yellowknife and head to the shores of the Great Slave Lake. In winter, this massive body of water freezes, allowing the creation of the Ice Road.

During the trip between December and April, we will walk, drive, and lie down on this winter track. We will also see traditional boat-houses along the Great Slave Lake and learn about the customs of the local inhabitants.

The trip includes a visit to the snow castle, a fortress on the Ice Road, built anew each year. You can take a photo next to its crafted walls and battlements as a souvenir.

The Ice Road connects Yellowknife with the First Nations community of Dettah, where we will explore the heritage of this longstanding culture.

We will return over the Great Slave Lake on the Ice Road, arriving back at your hotel by 3:30 p.m.

The snow castle

The snow castle is open only during March. Tours before this month will show the castle during its construction.
