Discover the Yellowknife Ice Road on this trip through the frozen landscapes of the Northwestern Territories, constructed every January.
Yellowknife Ice Road Trip
At 2 pm, we will pick you up from your hotel in Yellowknife and travel to the shores of the Great Slave Lake. In winter, this water body freezes, allowing for the creation of the Ice Road.
During the trip, we will walk, drive, and lie down on this winter track, which is accessible between December and April. You will see traditional boat-houses on the shores and learn about the customs of the local inhabitants.
The trip includes visiting a snow castle, built on the Ice Road, which stands only during winter and is constructed in a different style each year. You will have the opportunity to take a picture beside its crafted walls and battlements.
The Ice Road connects Yellowknife with the First Nations community of Dettah, providing insight into the ancestry of this region’s culture.
We will return over the Great Slave Lake on the Ice Road, arriving at your hotel at 3:30 p.m.
The snow castle
The snow castle is open only during March. If you take the tour before March, you will see the castle being built.
