Discover the Yellowknife Ice Road on our tour. We will drive along this route through the frozen landscapes of the Northwestern Territories, constructed each January.
Yellowknife Ice Road Trip
At 2 pm, we will pick you up from your hotel in Yellowknife and head to the shores of the Great Slave Lake. In winter, this large body of water freezes, allowing for the creation of the Ice Road.
We will walk, drive, and lie down on this track, which exists only between December and April. The trip includes views of traditional boat houses on the shores of the lake and insights into the customs of the local community.
Our journey continues at the snow castle, a fortress built on the Ice Road. This monument, which stands only during winter, is designed differently each year. You can take pictures next to its crafted walls as a souvenir.
The Ice Road connects Yellowknife with the First Nations community of Dettah, where we will learn about their ancestral culture.
We will return over the Great Slave Lake on the Ice Road, arriving back at your hotel by 3:30 p.m.
The snow castle
The snow castle is open only during March. If your tour is before then, you will see the castle being constructed.
