Moors, Whitby & The Yorkshire Steam Railway Day Trip
We'll meet opposite the Dean Court Hotel at 9 am in York to begin our day trip passing through Strensall, Sheriff Hutton, and Hovingham.
Our first stop is Hutton-le-Hole to see the traditional stone-built houses and village common. We'll then drive over the North York Moors towards Blakey Ridge, the highest point, and Ralph's Cross, before heading to Whitby. Upon arrival, the guide will provide insights into the town's history and attractions.
You will have 2 hours 30 minutes to explore Whitby, including must-see sites like the Endeavour Experience, Captain Cook Museum, Bark Endeavour, and Whitby Abbey. It is recommended to try fish and chips at the Magpie Café. Alternative drop-offs in Whitby are available at the Harbour or the Abbey.
There is an option to take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which departs Whitby at 2 pm for a 45-minute journey around Grosmont and Goathland, recognized as Hogsmead Station from the wizarding world. This option requires payment on the day of the activity.
If you choose not to take the train, the bus will take us to Goathland, where we will discuss the fictional locations of 'Hogsmead' and 'Aidensfield' made famous by a British TV show.
The tour continues to Snod Hill for information about the RAF Fylingdales Pyramid and the Hole of Horcum. On our return to York, we will pass the scenic Howardian Hills and Howard Castle.
The tour concludes back at the meeting point in York at 5:15 pm.
