Bove Valley + Mount Etna Hiking Tour

On this hiking tour, we will meet at the Schiena dell'Asino car park to begin the trek along the Schiena dell'Asino route, which is suitable for all skill levels. The hike will take us from 5906 to 6463 feet (1800 to 1970 meters).

This path, named the Path of the Donkey's Back, features rock formations along with views of pine forests and ancient lava flows, as well as vistas of the Sicilian coast and Ionian Sea. During the hike, a guide will provide insights into the formation of Etna, its caves, and its historical significance to local culture.

The trail leads to the Bove Valley, an extensive depression over 5 miles (8 kilometers) long on the eastern side of Etna. Its volcanic sand creates a unique landscape often likened to a lunar surface.

After taking in the panoramic views, we will descend via the Espalda del Burro, gaining a different perspective of Bove Valley and passing a black sand channel and a volcanic cave. The trekking route lasts a total of 3 to 4 hours, concluding back at our starting point.
