On this hiking tour around Etna and the Bove Valley, we'll follow the Schiena dell'Asino trekking route, an easy trekking route in this natural park.

Bove Valley + Mount Etna Hiking Tour

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Schiena dell'Asino car park to begin our hike along Etna and the Bove Valley.

The hike ascends from 5906 to 6463 feet (1800 to 1970 meters) on the Schiena dell'Asino trail. The trail is named for a rock formation visible during the route.

We will encounter pine forests and ancient solidified lava flows, along with views of the Sicilian coast and the Ionian Sea.

During the hike, the guide will explain the formation of Etna and its caves, along with the evolution of its landscapes. Additionally, we will explore the connection between the volcano and Sicilian culture.

Upon reaching the end of the trail, we will admire the Bove Valley, an extensive depression of more than 5 miles (8 kilometers) long on the eastern side of Etna, characterized by volcanic sand resembling a lunar landscape.

After taking in the panoramic views, we will begin our descent along the Espalda del Burro, offering another perspective of Bove Valley. We will also pass near a large black sand channel and a volcanic cave.

The trekking route concludes after a total of 3 or 4 hours, returning to the starting point.
