- 1 Bewertung
On this hike in the Calcarazzi Mountains, we will explore the volcanic landscapes of Mount Etna and the Sicilian coast.
Hike Details
We will meet at the Schiena dell'Asino parking to start the hiking experience through the Calcarazzi Mountains.
The 7.5-kilometre (4.6-mile) trek will take us around the Bove Valley and to the craters formed after the volcanic eruption in December 1991.
The hike begins in shaded areas under pine trees. As we navigate the trail, we will be presented with a view of Sicily's southeastern coastline.
At the peak of the Schiena dell'Asino route, we will observe the Bove Valley, which is an 8-kilometre (5-mile) geological depression of volcanic sand. The landscape resembles a moon-like quality.
After taking in the views, we will reach an altitude of 2245 metres (7365 feet) and turn toward the Calcarazzi Mountains.
We will then visit the Silvestre Superiore crater for another scenic viewpoint before descending to the Sapienza refuge and returning to the starting point, completing the hike in about 4-5 hours.
