Tour Details
We will pick you up from your hotel in Zanzibar at the scheduled time. The day will start with a walking tour of Stone Town, where you'll explore key sites, including an organic spice town and the historic Prison Island.
First, in Stone Town, you will visit historical sites reflective of its rich cultural heritage from the 19th century, with influences from Arabian, Indian, Persian, and European cultures. You'll stroll through narrow streets to see old slave markets, bustling daily markets, and former palaces like the Sultan's Palace, while learning about the tragic history of slave trading.
Next, we will travel to a spice plantation for a guided walking tour of a spice farm, where you will explore various spices like nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon. You'll immerse yourself in the aromas of herbs and tropical fruits, witnessing the cultivation methods while the guide explains their uses.
After the spice farm visit, you will enjoy a traditional Swahili lunch at the farm, highlighting the culinary uses of spices.
Lastly, we will take a boat ride to Prison Island, where you will learn about its history as a slave prison. The island is home to giant tortoises, including the Aldabra Giant Tortoise Sanctuary, featuring a 200-year-old tortoise. After the visit, we will return to Stone Town and conclude the tour at your hotel.
