Day Trip to Appenzell and Hoher Kasten

Let yourselves be captivated by rural Switzerland on this day trip to the village of Appenzell. We'll visit a traditional cheese factory and ascend the Hoher Kasten by cable car.

Day Trip Details

At the designated time, we'll set off from the Sihlquai Bus Station parking lot in Zurich towards northeastern Switzerland.

During our bus ride, we will drive along Lake Zurich and pass by Rapperswil Castle. The journey continues to the hills of Appenzell, where a traditional farm visit allows you to try a glass of fresh milk.

Our next stop will be the Appenzeller cheese factory, where you'll see how raw milk becomes Switzerland's most aromatic cheese. The visit includes a tour of the warehouse with up to 12,500 wheels of cheese and a cheese tasting.

Next, we will take the cable car up Hoher Kasten Mountain, 1794 metres (5885 feet) above sea level, offering views of the Alpstein massif, Rhine Valley, Lake Constance, and the Principality of Liechtenstein. A revolving restaurant on the peak offers dining options.

After lunch, we'll return via the cable car to visit the picturesque village of Appenzell, where a guided tour includes its beautifully painted wooden facades and a visit to a chocolate boutique for a chocolate tasting.

Following the guided tour, enjoy half an hour of free time before we start our journey back to Zurich. On the return trip, you will receive a bag of Swiss products.
