Explore the spectacular Swiss Alps on this day trip to Mount Pilatus from Zurich. Hike to the peak, travel on the world's steepest cogwheel train and ride a panoramic cable car for unparalleled views over the mountains.

Day Trip Details

We'll depart from the Sihlquai Bus Terminal parking lot at the indicated time and travel by bus to Lucerne, enjoying views of the Swiss Alps. The guide will highlight key sights, such as the Chapel Bridge and the Jesuit Church. Following this, you will have free time to explore Lucerne's Old Town.

Next, you will continue to Kriens for a cable car ride with views of the Krienseregg forest, ascending to Fräkmüntegg. You will then board the Dragon Ride cableway to Mount Pilatus, where you can either walk down the Dragon Trail or hike to the summit. Free time for lunch at the mountain restaurants is also included.

For the return journey, you will take the world's steepest cogwheel train down to Alpnachstad, followed by a boat cruise on the Lake of the Four Cantons, before returning to Zurich after 9.5 hours.

Itinerary Adjustments

The itinerary will experience adjustments during the following dates:

Dragon Ride cable car: closed for maintenance between October 19 and November 27, 2025. Ascent and descent during this time will be via the cogwheel train.Boat trip: available between May 11 and November 18, 2025. Between October 19 and November 29, 2025, this will be replaced with a food ticket for restaurants on Mount Pilatus, valued at 20CHF for adults and 10CHF for children.
