Mount Pilatus Day Trip

Explore the spectacular Swiss Alps on this day trip to Mount Pilatus from Zurich. Hike to the peak, travel on the world's steepest cogwheel train and ride a panoramic cable car for unparalleled views over the mountains.

Day Trip Details

We'll leave the Sihlquai Bus Terminal parking lot at the designated time. The journey begins by bus towards Lucerne, crossing the Albis Pass and driving alongside the Lake of the Four Cantons. A stop will be made for photos of the Alpine landscapes before reaching Lucerne, where a guide will highlight key attractions like the Chapel Bridge and the Jesuit Church. You will then have free time to explore the Old Town.

After Lucerne, the bus continues to Kriens for a cable car ride offering views of the Krienseregg forests as you ascend to Fräkmüntegg. Here, you will board the Dragon Ride with panoramic windows for views over the Swiss Alps.

Upon reaching the top of Mount Pilatus at 2,131 meters, you may choose between walking down the Dragon Trail or hiking to the summit. Free time will also be provided for lunch at one of the mountaintop restaurants.

After your exploration, descend to Alpnachstad on the steepest cogwheel train in the world, followed by a boat cruise on the Lake of the Four Cantons for additional views of the Alps. The day concludes with a return to Zurich after a total of 9.5 hours.

Itinerary Adjustments

Itinerary adjustments for specific dates are as follows:

Dragon Ride cable car: Open throughout the year, except between October 20 and November 7, 2025, when it will be closed for maintenance. During this time, the ascent and descent will be via the cogwheel train.Boat trip: Available only between May 12 and November 2025. Note that from October 20 to November 14, 2025, it will be replaced with a food ticket.
