Experience the luxury of the Belle Époque and the charm of the Roaring Twenties on this guided tour of Biarritz. Step back in time to the golden age of this stunning seaside gem in the French Basque Country.

Activity Details

At the indicated time, we'll start our guided tour of Biarritz at the entrance of the Casino Barrière, enjoying a panoramic view of the Atlantic.

Adjacent to this luxurious building, we will explore why Biarritz is one of the most exclusive coastal towns in Aquitaine. Anecdotes and curiosities from the Belle Époque, which spanned from 1871 to 1914, will be shared, highlighting its significance alongside the “Roaring Twenties.”

At the Great Beach of Biarritz, popular among surfers, we'll walk along the promenade while reflecting on the 17th and 18th centuries and pirate episodes in the region.

We will stop in front of the Hôtel du Palais to learn about the marriage of Eugénie de Montijo and Napoleon III, who promoted this palace-hotel.

Continuing, we will explore the church of Saint Eugénie, built in honor of the emperor’s wife, before proceeding along the coastal path.

We will pass by the Biarritz Aquarium before reaching the Rocher de la Vierge or Rock of the Virgin. This site features a carving of a virgin and is accessed via a footbridge over the Atlantic, serving as the only route to the islet.

The tour concludes after an hour and a half at this last point.
