On this guided tour of Catania, you'll learn about the city's history, art, and traditions, exploring its historic monuments and charming streets.

Tour Details

We'll meet at Piazza dell'Università to start the guided tour of Catania. The tour begins with an explanation of the city's origins and significant events, including the lava flow in 1669 and the earthquake in 1693.

Next, we'll proceed to Piazza del Duomo and the Elephant Fountain, to learn about the famous elephant Liotru. Following this, we'll visit the Catania Cathedral and the Town Hall courtyard, linked to Agatha of Sicily, the town's patron saint. After crossing the Fontana dell'Amenano, we'll explore the vibrant fish market, where you can purchase local goods.

We will then transition from the market to the serene Via dei Crociferi, showcasing Baroque architecture and its connection to the pre-earthquake Catania.

Afterward, we will return to Piazza dell'Università, walking among Baroque buildings, and conclude at the Roman Amphitheatre of Catania, a unique structure made of black volcanic stone. The entire guided tour lasts for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
